Discover the Castle and its History
Pramenoux which is also known as Pratum Menulti in the middle ages (Pratum : meadow and Menulti : menu grain), a term which designated second quality cereals such as millet, oats and barley) has been mentioned since 977AD.
The estate belonged to the Sires of Beaujeu who ceded it to the Ronchivol family (1375-1698) in 1375, Francois de Ronchivol buried with him the family name when he died in 1698. He was buried in Lamure cemetery. His daughter, Marie de Ronchivol married Claude de la Queille in 1669, bearing a son named Claude Francois de la Queille. In 1707, he married to Anne Josephine de Chabanne. Gilberte was born from their union in 1713. In memory of the baptism, a bell bearing the inscription still hangs at the dungeon: "Claude François de la Queuille Count of Pramenoux and Anne de Chabannes Countess of Pramenoux - 1713."
Gilberte married in 1733 to Alyre Joseph Gilbert, Count of Langheac. The castle bears the Gilbert family name from 1733 – 1801. The couple’s third son, Jean-Gilbert-Madeleine, known as Madelon, was born in Paris on 4 July 1739 but settled in Pramenoux with his brother in 1786. On his brother's death in 1790, he inherited Pramenoux and undertook several works there. Upon his death in 1799, his aunts claim the inheritance but sold the castle on 1801 to the citizens Antoine de la Charme, notary, Claude Marie Sargnon père, Pierre Deville and Pierre Lacroix, merchants in St Vincent de Reins. From 1865 to 1990, the castle had changed hands several times. The owners were, mayors, widows, lawyers, merchants and entrepreneurs.
